You may be considering Therapy for many different reasons.  Perhaps you or a family member are feeling lost or facing a life challenge. Or perhaps, it’s about requiring a non-judgemental space where your own voice can be heard and validated.  All of these reasons and anything that sits in between are worthy reasons for you to start today.

Level 2, Registered Counsellor - Australian Counselling Association.

Supervised by Misha Crosbie | Soul Path Journeys

I have completed my Bachelor of Counselling and was a recipient of a commendation for Academic Excellence from USC.  This degree focused on counselling theories, psychology, communication and relationships, family and individual counselling, crisis intervention, grief and loss and cultural diversity.

As a counsellor, I currently work in several sectors which includes my 4-year involvement with Life Line Australia as an Accredited Telephone Crisis Supporter, Student Mentor (Prac Trainer), Community Recovery Officer (during natural disasters) and as Maroochydore's Centre Supervisor. These roles are supported by my private practice - Coast Life Counselling.

I am a white Caucasian woman (PGP’s: she/her/hers) in a heterosexual marriage with four step children. In addition, I have resided overseas for many years and understand the complexity surrounding expat living and repatriation. As such, I endeavour to be conscious of how my privileged traits may show up in the world and therapeutic settings.

I work from a client-centred and collaborative approach. My aim is to offer a space where a voice can be heard and witnessed, strengths identified, coping skills learned, resilience recognized and hope re-discovered. I focus on creating a supportive and safe space where life goals, values and beliefs can be explored and cultural norms and personal patterns can be changed or discarded.

Perhaps you may wish to explore a particular topic or only come for a particular amount of sessions or you may simply wish to discover new boundaries or possibiliites. Nevertheless, this is your space and time.

I view counselling as a place where people can be listened too. A place were emotions, thoughts and behaviours can be noticed and challenged, if required. Therefore, I integrate a Strength based approach with Somatic Focused Therapy and Creative Arts, including Mindfulness, CBT and Motivational Interviewing, depending on your needs and interests - with a view to connect your mind, body, emotions and self together.  Since, it is through the process of personal growth and self-discovery that new life pathways can be carved and walked on.

Depression, anxiety, fear, shame & guilt are all common terms in today's society that have been associated with stress. Although a small amount of stress (known as "good stress") can lead to personal achievement, research clearly shows that a build up of long-term pressure causes serious mental, emotional, phsycial and psycholigical problems such as

  • Hypertension & heart problems

  • Digestive disorders

  • Weakened immune system

  • Body aches and pains

  • Depression & anxiety

  • Insomnia and other sleep disorders

  • Irritability

  • Poor memory, decreased concentration & headaches

We can help you distinguish between what is good stress and what is  bad stress - so you can feel revived again.

Romantic Couple Enjoying View

At Coast Life Counselling we use relationship theories, research science and powerful tools to educate people on strategies that help them thrive. We support people to learn how to reconnect, communicate better, resolve conflict and find love again.

During the first phase, we help clients identify and explore any maladaptive behavioural patterns that may have played a pivotal role in their disconnection.  The second phase concentrates on helping clients map out what they consider to be a successful relationship. Followed by psychoeducation, exploration and the development of positive behavioural patterns so they can achieve greater communication and reconnection. Next, is about re-building a stronger foundation that rekindles respect, trust and love.

Coast  Life Counselling works compassionately and with care - ensuring each person is listened too and validated.

No matter the nature of your relationship, it is never an easy situation when you are breaking-up, facing a separation or divorce.  During this time, there is often a range of heightened emotions that can leave a person feeling overhwelmed, desperate, sad and alone (just to name a few). Woman on Window Sill

Loss and grief is a personal experience that is highly emotional, stressful, painful and sad.  Our goal is to carefully support you through these intense emotions in a safe, confidential, and empathetic environment.  We can help you come to terms with the reality of your loss, readjust your life, build new coping stategies, treasure memories and reconnect to support networks.

Many people attribute Loss & Grief to only death, however there are many other life factors that trigger high emotions such as

  • Loss of Health

  • Relationship, separation and/or divorce

  • A loved one, partner, child or animal – bereavement

  • A career change or business loss

  • Loss of Income and/or Financial security

  • Loss of Independence

  • Skill inability or lack of capability

If you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Anger & despair

  • Sadness & Anxiety

  • Depression, Guilt & Fear

  • Not eating or limited sleep

  • Crying all the time

Then chances are you are grieving a significant loss.

There is no fixed time frame for grieving, as this process can sometimes take many years.  However, the way we cope with these life challenges - is important.  Coast Life Counselling can guide you through all the grief and loss phases by making the process easier.

According to Kubler-Ross Model there are 7 phases of Grief & Loss.

  • Shock, disbelief & numbness

  • Denial

  • Anger & aggression

  • Bargaining

  • Guilt

  • Depression & despair

  • Acceptance, recovery and lastly hope

If you are struggling with life at the moment - please call, as we can help you through these phases.

Hurricane Damage

Coast Life Counselling can help you relieve stress after a natural disaster.  When a natural disaster occurs whether that be flood, fire and/or storm normal coping strategies sometimes stop working.  In fact, even though reactions vary between people, there are common reactions that are related to abnormal events.  Sometimes these reactions appear immediately after a crisis event, however sometimes they appear hours, days and months afterwards. These reactions are categorized as cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physiological symptoms.

  • Memory loss & confusion

  • Decision making difficulties

  • Concentration problems

  • Reduced attention span

  • Calculation challenges

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Anxiety, Grief & Depression

  • Overwhelmed & irritability

  • Identification as a vicitm

  • Suicidal or self-harm

  • Crying, insomnia & substance abuse

  • Gait changes

  • Hyper vigiliance

  • Ritualistic behaviour

  • Fatigue, nausea, dizziness & ticks

  • Fine motor tremors

  • Muscle weakness and aches

  • Shock symptoms, headaches & body pains

  • Sweating, chills and fever

We have  "hands-on-experience" helping those affected by natural disasters and understands the impact on individuals and families.

Today's world seems to have the habit of pulling us in so many different directions, making it is easy to get stuck in unhelpful patterns of miscomunication, confusion and conflict despite wishing for the opposite. Coast Life Counselling can provide a space for children and adolscents to be be heard and listened too in a way that helps them find a path forward.

Somatic Focused Psychotherapy

Somatic Focused Psychotherapy

Somatic psychotherapy, is a holistic therapeutic approach that considers and incoporates a person’s mind, body, energy and emotions in the healing process.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creative Arts Therapy

The premise is that the creative process supports artistic self-expression which helps individuals resolve conflicts, manage maladaptive behavior, improve self-esteem and self-awareness and develop interpersonal skills. Creative Arts Therapy integrates theories of human development, visual arts, and the process of creating.

It is a form of psychodynamic psychotherapy that incorporates the body and the mind. Bioenergetics helps people release emotions from their bodies which supports positive thinking and living.

Expressive Writing

Expressive Writing

Expressive writing comes from core. It is more personal and emotional, as it concentrates more on feelings than specific events, memories or objects. It focuses on how one feels rather than the event.

Symbols and Imagery Focused Therapy

Symbols and Imagery Focused Therapy

Symbols and imagery educed from the subconscious can be interpreted within the therapeutic process. Symbols and Imagery can help clients search for meaning and definition in their lives.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma Informed Care

Supporting clients to find a gentle pathway towards a fuller life while dismantling the impact of trauma and/or abuse.

Our aim is to support clients as they quieten the maladaptive narratives of shame - feelings of incompetency, worthlessness, insignificance and being “not enough”.  We help clients carve a new pathway while dismantling the effects of intergenerational trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, anger and emotionally cut off parents, partners or family members that often result in anxiety and depression.

Our aim is to support clients to feel revitalised and re-discover connection, playfulness, happiness, confidence, sensuality within themselves and relationships.
